Coronavirus: Whistleblower Doctor Killed By Virus

 
 

Wuhan Central Hosptial announced Friday morning that Dr. Li Wenliang, one of the first medical professionals to sound the alarm about the coronavirus has died from the virus.

The announcement of this death comes after some confusion Thursday when China state media outlets reported his death which Wuhan Central Hospital denied, saying he was alive but critical. The hospital would later confirm his death after attempts to resurrect him failed. 

On December 30, 2019. Dr. Wenliang announced in an online chat group that an illness similar to SARS had infected several patients in a Wuhan hospital where they had been quarantined. Soon after he and other doctors that shared the information about the virus they were forced by the local police to agree not to speak about the disease. Li was diagnosed with the coronavirus on February 1st after being admitted to the hospital weeks earlier. 

To date, the coronavirus has killed over 560 people and infected
