Coronavirus Spreads To More Than 100 Countries; Stock Market Plunges

As the number of COVID-19 illnesses and deaths continues to drop in China other countries are now confirming their first cases, bringing the worldwide total to over 110,000 cases in more than 100 countries. 

The World Health Organization announced Monday that 8 new counties/territories reported cases of COVID-19 including Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Faroe Islands, Malta, French Guiana, Martinique, Maldives, and the Republic fo Moldova. 

In the US there are currently 616 confirmed cases and 22 deaths.

Coronavirus fears continued to destabilize financial institutions as the Dow Jones dropped 1800 points while the Standards and Poor’s 500 dipped 7% as did Nasdaq Composite. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York announced they would increase the amount of cash it provides for the nation’s banking systems to ensure the markets stay sufficiently liquid.
