A 71-year-old man in Washington state became the second confirmed death Sunday from the coronavirus in the United States. Both deaths occurred in King County where 10 people have been diagnosed with the virus.  Coronavirus is now known to be in no less than 12 states, a number that is expected to grow in the coming weeks.

Rhode Island, Florida, and New York announced their first known cases of the virus on Sunday, with each offering assurances that they were monitoring the potential for outbreaks closely. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a public health emergency after residents in two separate counties tested positive for the virus.

Pandemic concerns have caused a run on supplies at big-box retailers such as Costco where cleaning supplies, face masks, and hand sanitizer are sold-out all over the country. More widespread shortages are expected as the virus also known as COVID-19 begins to spread throughout the US.

The disease which originated in the Wuhan provenance of China is now responsible for more than 3,000 deaths and almost 90,000 infections worldwide.
