New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called on the US government for help Friday following a whopping 23% increase in coronavirus deaths in the state. Nationally, nearly 7, 400 people have died from the coronavirus with over 3,200 of those cases from New York.

Cuomo cited a desperate need for ventilators downstate before signing an executive order giving the state the power to claim medical equipment and protective gear from public and private organizations. The move was criticized by Western New York lawmakers who accused the governor of prioritizing the lower half of the state.
